Ridgewood police officers snuff attic fire

SHOUT OUT: Ridgewood Police Officers Raymond Tarino and John Ward Jr. were in the right place at the right time this afternoon when they heard a alert of an “unknown-type” fire nearby.

They rushed two blocks up Circle Avenue, made sure everyone was out of the house, then snuffed the attic fire with an extinguisher.

Firefighters ventilated the house and returned it to the owners a half-hour or so later.

No injuries were reported.

A child playing with a lighter apparently ignited the small blaze, which damaged a rug and some third-floor subflooring.
