YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Ridgewood Detective Douglas Williams was routinely reviewing pawn shop receipts when he noticed that a Passaic County woman had sold more than $10,000 worth of jewelry at two borough stores. But there was a twist.
Much of the jewelry had been stolen from another pawn shop, police said this morning.
Williams was reviewing pawn receipts from Pangea Antiques and Art and Ridgewood Coin and Stamp when he got word that the owner of another store found several items missing.
That led the detective to an employee, 21-year-old Ashley Vietri of Ringwood.
She was arrested, charged with theft and released without bail pending an appearance in Ridgewood Municipal Court.
