RIDGEWOOD, N.J. – Ridgewood has been preparing for the worst as Hurricane Joaquin continues its uncertain trek north, officials told residents Thursday night.

"We have been and will be on top of this situation. Your Village staff began preparations earlier this week, and we met (Thursday) morning to continue our monitoring of this situation," Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld told residents in an email. "Police, Fire and Emergency Services are all prepped and ready to go as is our DPW, Sewer and Water staff."

There are several different theories on where and how severely Joaquin could hit New Jersey. One possibility, Sonenfeld said, has the storm arriving Monday night into Tuesday.

"Hopefully the hurricane will take another track and we will not be impacted," she said. "Our primary concern over the next couple of days is the possibility of high winds and significant rainfall possibly resulting in flooding and tree damage. The risk of tree damage has increased due to the drought conditions that we have been experiencing. The timeframe for this weather appears to be Friday evening through Saturday. We have staff and contractors on call in the event of downed trees or other emergency situations."

Anyone with tree damage that could cause a more severe situation is asked to call (201) 652-3900.

Anyone who loses power is asked to call PSE&G directly at 1(800) 436-PSEG rather than contacting the village.

Sonenfeld recommends signing up for E-Notices as well as telephone notifications, which can be done on the village website .
