The derailment damaged a switch machine, leaving eight of the 21 tracks out of commission indefinitely, Amtrak chief operating officer Scott Naparstek said.
Naparstek vowed that Amtrak will work around the clock until the problems are solved. Amtrak will also lead an investigation on Monday's derailment.
Customers on trains arriving or departing from New York Penn Station are looking at delays up to 50 minutes during rush hours and up to 25 minutes during non-rush hours, Amtrak said.
Amtrak will operate a modified schedule on the Northeast Corridor through Thursday, April 6.
NJ Transit added additional train service for the afternoon peak period departing from Penn Station New York to expand the currently operating holiday schedule on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Lines.
NJ Transit's Main/Bergen, Pascack Valley, Port Jervis and Atlantic City Rail Lines will continue to operate on regular weekday schedules. Modtown Direct trains continue to operate in and out of Hoboken Terminal.
