RIDGEWOOD, N.J.– The owner of a new salon in Ridgewood is so certain of the quality of his work that he's making a bold offer.

“I always say you’re going to get the best service ever or it’s free,” Leo Qandah of Chi Elite Salon told Daily Voice. “That’s my statement.”

The Jordan-born, 48-year-old father of three from Lodi cut hair in Manhattan and Passaic County for more than 20 years before saving up enough money to purchase a location in the village.

Ridgewood was his choice of locale because of the village's clientele.

“They value your work, they value what you do,” he said.

Qandah came across the vacant former salon on Godwin Avenue while driving past at night.

“The next day, I came in and signed the paperwork,” he said. “[I told myself:] That’s the place.”

Chi Elite – named for the owner’s affinity for Catonic Hydration Interlink by Farouk products – celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 23, after Qandah sent flyers to homes in Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus and Midland Park.

One customer who received a flyer wasn't happy with her previous stylist. So she came by.

“It felt comfortable,” said the village doctor, who gave her name only as Valerie. “It felt like I’d be taken care of [here].”

Qandah and his four-member staff offers unisex cuts, coloring, highlights, eyebrow threading, beard trimming, shaves, and more for people of all ages - literally.

“From 1 to 95,” Qandah said.
