RAMSEY, N.J. — Don Bosco 2012 graduate Elijah Shumate signed with the Tampa Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent on Saturday.

The 6-foot, 208-pound defensive back helped the Ironmen to No. 1 national ranking in his senior year and was a part of four state championship teams.

With nine tackles and three pass breakups, the East Orange native played all 13 games his freshman year at Notre Dame, Shumate's college bio says. He saw significant action on an Irish team that reached the BCS National Championship Game, before falling to Alabama

He finished his senior season third with the Notre Dame Irish with 70 tackles, broke up three passes and recorded one interception. Shumate was ranked as the No. 14 strong safety on the board by CBSsports.
