RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- The Ridgewood school district on Thursday took to Facebook account to recognize one of its own.
Ridgewood High School Band Director John Luckenbill was recently named one of 50 national recipients of the Positive Coaching Allicance's Double-Goald Coach Award, an honor presented to coaches who strive to win, yet focus primarily on teaching life lessons through sports, according to the district.
Luckenbill leads the high school's marching band program, guiding the teens with five principles or "stars," as reflected on the band's uniforms: trust, pride, leadership, respect and unity," according to the district.
The teacher and band director has been at the high school for the past five years, is a graduate of Michigan State University. He will be earning a master's degree in Music Education from Kent State University.
Luckenbill receives the award after being nominated by a band parent who collected letters of recommendation and other required documentation.
