Police: Car Abandoned By DWI Driver Struck By Train In Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A drunk driver abandoned her car on railroad tracks overnight in Ridgewood, where it was struck by a train, police said.

No one was injured, they said.

"The vehicle was driven onto tracks from Lake Avenue behind 233-239 Goffle Road at about 1:15 a.m.," Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke told Daily Voice.

"The driver exited her vehicle after abandoning it on the tracks and walked to the roadway," Luthcke said. "The train then struck her parked vehicle."

Police found the 28-year-old driver from Little Falls on Goffle Road, the chief said. They charged her with DWI and several motor vehicle violations, she said.
