Officer Liam Kantanas was among 95 recruits who were graduated Wednesday night from the Bergen County Police Academy.

Kantanas was graduated from Ramapo College with a Bachelor’s degree. He was presented with badge #1160 – the 160th officer to serve the residents of Mahwah in the police department’s history.

He and the other recruits completed an intense and difficult six-month course thatincluded physical training, classes in all areas of law enforcement, defensive tactics, pursuit driving, constitutional law and firearms.

The graduation ceremony was various dignitaries, including Bergen County Police Chiefs Association President Ed Kasper of Oakland, Bergen County Executive James Tedesco, Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino and Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal – who this week was chosen as the nominee to become New Jersey’s next attorney general.

Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli congratulated Kantanas, saying that he will be “a great asset to the agency, reflecting the new generation of officers…with innovative ideas and concepts to further the law enforcement mission.”
