The opposing votes in the 36-4 tally of the Representative Assembly of the BCCFA (known as the RA) came from those “hoping to get a vote of no confidence instead,” one department representative told the website.
Those same representatives believe a censure doesn’t support an anticipated “no confidence” vote coming from BCC’s Student Government hanging, he said.
“We are concerned that a censure motion will not be taken seriously by the Board of Trustees and Ryan, though [we] do fully support it,” the union rep told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The RA consists of an elected union member from each academic department. BCC has about 350 faculty members.
“Barring some sort of ‘Christmas Carol’-styled divine intervention towards [President] Ryan, it seems likely to pass,” the representative said.
In turn, “if such vote passes among the faculty popularity in the big vote, [student representatives] will start collecting petitions with student signatures,” said one of those representatives, Yoel Weisshaus.
Both students and faculty members have a list of grievances against Ryan and his staff, as explained in ‘No confidence’ vote pending versus BCC president.
Ryan could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday morning.
