RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- An employee from a Cliffside Park-based construction company was seriously injured Wednesday night after he tried to stop a runaway van.

The driver tried jumping into the driver's seat but fell from the moving vehicle around 5:15 p.m. on North Maple Avenue, Police Chief John Ward told Daily Voice.

The victim was been part of a crew conducting maintenance/repair work on the home of noted author Harlan Coben.

An ambulance took him to Hackensack University Medical Center with the assistance of a paramedic unit from The Valley Hospital.

The van was removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Village police were investigating.
