RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Timothy Mark Smith, 58, of Ridgewood, died Oct. 18.
He was born Dec. 7, 1957, in Newark, Ohio, the son of the late Frankie Smith Jr. and Alice (Schmutzler) Smith.
After visiting New York City with his high school drama club, he decided he would someday live and work there. He was a graduate of Ohio University and Columbia Business School. A consumer marketing and finance professional, he spent his entire career in magazine publishing. He especially enjoyed his work on the launch team of Entertainment Weekly magazine. At the time of his death, he was planning director of Smithsonian magazine.
He was a Ridgewood resident for 26 years, always proud to tell anyone he met he was “not from the Westside, not from the Eastside, but from The Other Side” of town. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Smith; children, Emily and Robin Smith; brother, Alton Gregory Smith; and sister-in-law Brenda Smith.
