Martin R. Plump, 75, Of Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Martin R. Plump, of Ridgewood, died Nov. 2. He was 75.

He was born Oct. 25, 1941.

He graduated from Bergen Community College with his associate’s degree Summa Cum Lade and then continued to graduate from William Paterson with his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology and a minor in psychology Summa Cum Laude.

Plump had a true passion for his job as a Ridgewood police lieutenant, where he was a distinguished expert marksman. He was admired for his 30 years of service to the Ridgewood police and community. He also worked 17 years as a security guard at the Valley Hospital.

He had a strong Christian faith, which carried him through his line of work, health and also influenced his daughter and grandchildren. He felt honored to be a member of the Fidelity Lodge No. 113 Free & Accepted Mason. He enjoyed photography, reading, watching movies, history, a passion for fine arts, video games, traveling, anything Disney and a love for St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Bonnie M. (husband Lourens) Latona; and grandchildren, Lourens M. and Brielle M. Latona.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Angelica Latona.

Visiting will be from 1-3 and 5-9 p.m. Sunday at the Feeney Funeral Home 232 Franklin Ave., Ridgewood. Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Nursery School, 125 Glassgow Terrace, Mahwah.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Ridgewood Local PBA 20 at P.O. Box 27 Ridgewood, NJ 07451 or to Fidelity Lodge No. 113, 99 S. Maple Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
