Mark A. Melli, 62, Of Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Mark A. Melli, 62, died with his family and friends at his side Saturday, April 30, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with illness.

He spent his last days as he spent most days of his life - holding court, telling jokes and stories, and making his friends and family laugh.

Melli is survived by his wife, Jan (Gelewski) Melli; four children, Frank, Mark, Jenny, and Eileen; his grandson Owen Smith; sisters Ellen Powley, Regina (Melli) Woods and her husband Jack Woods;s sister-in-law Kathy Melli and his “brother” John Fezco; and many close friends he considered family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary (Corcoran) Melli; brothers, Patrick, Francis, and Charles (“Mickey”); nephew, Andrew Melli; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Powley.

Melli spent most of his life in Bergen County. He was born in Hasbrouck Heights, attended Bergen Catholic High School, Montclair University and North Carolina Central Law School.

Before retiring, he owned a law firm in Paramus. He was an accomplished lawyer, avid golfer and loyal friend. His sense of humor and knack for story telling will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Feeney Funeral Home, Ridgewood. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel’s Parish in Saddle River. Cremation will be private.
