Fader, an attorney who also served as chief counsel to Governors Richard J. Codey and James E. McGreevey, is survived by his wife, Jill, and children, Jack, Lucas, Morgan and Sydney.

“Paul devoted himself and his career to the people of Bergen County and New Jersey and we are better for his service to all of us,” Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said in a statement.

Messages of condolence have poured in from around the state.

"This is a terrible loss for everyone who knew or worked with Paul," Senate President Steve Sweeney said in a statement. "He distinguished himself in politics and public service and was a true friend to so many people whose lives he touched. We are all better for having known him.”

"Paul was more than just a trusted adviser to me over the years — he was a friend," Codey said in a statement. "He spent countless hours in service to our state as both a mayor and as the governor's chief counsel; he was a true professional in every sense of the word. My heart goes out to his wife and children at this difficult time.”

Tedesco said Fader recently “played a crucial role in shaping the future of the state’s largest hospital, New Bridge Medical Center, and I am proud that his work will positively impact the lives of our fellow residents for decades to come.”
