Emmy Winner John G. Wells, 94, Of Ridgewood

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- John G. Wells, of Ridgewood, died on Monday, Jan. 2. He was 94.

He was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1922 and emigrated to the US in 1939. He lived in New York City until 1951, and resided in Ridgewood for 60 years where he was an active parishioner of Mt Carmel Church. He fought both France and Italy in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He won an Emmy award for his creative work as a videotape editor. He was a member of IBEW and worked at ABC followed by a 35-year career at the CBS.

Following his retirement, he found great pleasure in creating keepsake videos and cards for family and friends. He loved to travel, enjoyed gathering with his friends but found his greatest happiness with his devoted family. Always a gentleman, his wisdom, wit and kind and generous heart will be dearly missed. 

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy and husband Bill Dorney; grandsons, John Wells Dorney and wife Ellen, Will Dorney and wife Katelyn, Matthew and wife Meredith and Thomas Dorney; great-grandchildren, Claire, John Wells Dorney II, Benjamin and Charlotte. 

He is predeceased by his wife, Eileen; daughter Barbara; son, Bob; parents, Kaethe and Ernst Weil; and brother, Stephen Wells. 

Funeral arrangements were private through Feeney Funeral Home, Ridgewood.
