Work will begin on Glen Avenue on May 2 and continue on the following streets: West Glen Avenue, East Glen Avenue, Lawrence Court, Heights Road, Alpine Terrace, Colwell Court, Douglas Place, Park Slope, Ridge Road, Sterling Place and Glenwood Road.
During the work, streets may need to be partially or fully closed for the work to be done, depending on the situation. Ridegwood officials said they will be working with the contractor and PSE&G to minimize disruptions to residents.
The work includes replacing old gas pipes with new, durable plastic and/or coated steel piping – ensuring the continued safety and reliability of the gas system. In addition, PSE&G will be upgrading 38,000 associated service lines that carry the gas to homes and businesses.
The new pipes will improve reliability, reduce the possibility of methane leaks, and enable the installation of excess flow valves on service lines. These valves dramatically reduce gas flow if a pipe is damaged. The elevated pressure of the new gas mains will also provide better support for high-efficiency appliances like furnaces and water heaters.
To upgrade the gas mains, the contractor will dig trenches, primarily in road surfaces, and lay new pipes, block by block. At the end of each workday, the trenches will be filled in. Plates will be secured on any open areas so people can safely drive and walk.
Once the work is complete, the roads will be repaired as the ground settles, which usually takes about 45 to 90 days, depending on the weather. work is finished, we will repair roads with temporary pavement until the ground settles.
