The Nov. 6 race "provides a dynamic platform for our dedicated charity runners to raise significant funds and increase awareness for important causes that are special to them," Raimondo said.

"We look forward to supporting and celebrating our runners throughout their memorable journeys, and are forever appreciative of their fundraising efforts that benefit Habitat Bergen’s mission of providing affordable housing in Bergen County,” she said.

The Oradell-based agency was granted five runner entries and is seeking to register them as soon as possible.

“Our official charity partner program is one of the TCS New York City Marathon’s most meaningful elements, providing thousands of participants with the opportunity to run for causes significant to them, while raising critical funds for hundreds of inspiring non-profit organizations," said Michael Rodgers, vice president of Development and Philanthropy for New York Road Runner.

More than 10,000 volunteers help support participants across the 26.2-mile race route through New York City’s five boroughs.

Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County

says it aims to "eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by working in partnership with people in need.

"Using volunteer labor and donated funds and materials, Habitat Bergen builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses and sells them to low-income families at cost -- but with no interest added," the agency said.

Habitat Bergen said it's "not a giveaway program but a joint venture in which those who benefit from the housing ministry are involved in the work at various levels. They help with the construction of their own home, as well as the houses of their neighbors."
