Wyckoff Father Daughter Cancer Survivors Pay It Forward Together

WYCKOFF, N.J. – A 9-year-old Wyckoff cancer survivor is launching new lines of bracelets to raise money – and hope – during September, National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Gerhard and Rebecca Salmins of Wyckoff are both cancer survivors.

Rebecca Salmins and her father Gerhard, also a cancer survivor, launched their company for a cause – called Knots and Arrows – earlier this year. They create bracelets, and donate a portion of the proceeds to childhood cancer research and another portion to families affected by childhood cancer.

“Wearing a bracelet means so much more than rocking a new fashion accessory,” Rebecca says in a video about their project. “It symbolizes hope. It is a possession to carry around that will constantly remind you of our purpose. To help your fellow human.”

The bracelets are made from swimsuit material “as a reminder to just keep swimming,” she said.

The video can be seen on the webpage for Knots and Arrows’ latest Kickstarter campaign, where people can also view the six new bracelet lines that Rebecca helped design herself.

People can pledge money to the campaign to receive bracelets. Through the Kickstarter, Rebecca and her father hope to raise $25,000 to produce the bracelets.

Rebecca was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia just before her 7th birthday, and was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center.
