EMERSON, N.J. — Tania showed up to Emerson's Vincent LoSacco's East Hanover Just Pups store only to discover that the puppy she had purchased was gone — along with dozens of others.

The 24-year-old special education teacher from Jackson spent the next several days scouring the Internet trying to find out where her beloved Cavapoo was and if she was being treated for her cough.

Thanks to Lorraine Healy of Husky House, Tania was reunited with her healthy 3-month-old Mia last Saturday.

"It was an emotional time," Tania said.

I could've looked elsewhere for another dog but I wanted to make sure she was OK, especially since she was sick and being mistreated.

Mia and almost 70 other dogs in the shop were signed over to the NJSPCA before they were surrendered to Husky House and some other local rescues. Every dog was being treated for kennel cough, officials told Daily Voice.

Tania's pup came down with a cough around the time Tania purchased her from Just Pups. She visited her at the shop often and developed a bond, but worried she wasn't getting better.

"She was supposed to be on antibiotics but she seemed to be getting worse," Tania told Daily Voice. "When they shut down, I was scared she wasn't being taken care of."

Turns out, Mia was in good hands with Husky House, after all.

The reunion seemed fateful for Tania.

"Now that I live on my own I wanted to take on a dog," she said. "I felt like it was good timing. She's just amazing."
