Ridgewood Rocker Doesn't Need Drugs To Make Dope Music

RAMSEY, N.J. — Dan Lorenzo of Ramsey had no desire to record any music since launching his last CD about a decade ago.

But then he heard a song called "The Opposition" by a band called Ancient VVisdom, and suddenly, things changed.

Lorenzo, 54, teamed up with that band's lead singer, Nathan Opposition, and together they landed a record deal with the Italian company, Argonauta Records.

Their first single "Meant To Be" — from the record Vessel of Light out in November — made its way to iTunes over Labor Day Weekend.

Lorenzo, a Paramus native and high school graduate (1981), wrote the music, and plays guitar and bass. Opposition wrote the lyrics, and plays the drums in "Meant To Be."

"'Meant To Be' is about a man who is 'normal,' until he does LSD — like Son of Sam," said Lorenzo, formerly of Ridgewood. "Then he becomes the killer."

"My wife and I don't drink or smoke or do drugs — I never did. We do watch a lot of 'Forensic Files.'"

Lorenzo began playing guitar in 1978. His band Hades released its first album in 1987, and toured Europe for the first time in 1989. Their last show was 2010, in Germany.

In a different band called Non-Fiction, Lorenzo toured Europe and America from 1990 to 1994 extensively.

He married his wife in Rome in 1997 and have been happily together ever since — 20 years on Sept. 13.

The couple bought their first home together in Ridgewood — where he can often be found playing basketball at Benjamin Franklin — before moving to Ramsey five years ago.

Lorezno's latest record was in 2007 with Bobby Blitz from Overkill, and released "The Cursed Room Full of Sinners."
