Jeanne Johnson has organized a panel discussion next month called "Moving Forward Together."

"A lot of times, people don’t want to get involved because they don’t know enough, even locally," said Johnson, a mom of two. "But that’s the best time to get involved."

Particularly, Johnson wants to better understand community news and how to shed light on the important stories in her community, and help others understand how to do the same.

The event is scheduled for Monday, May 15 at the Ridgewood Library, and will host a panel of representatives from The Patch, Daily Voice and North Jersey Media Group. The 7 p.m. panel will be moderated by RHS history teacher Patrick Bernardo.

"Our country is in a situation where we can’t afford to stay seated anymore," Johnson said.

"If we feel passionate about something and about making things better we must get up.

"We must do our part to heal our divide."
