It started over the summer for Payton Sargenti. She woke up one day with an excruciating stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.
That's not where it ended for Payton.
She remained in the hospital for five days, missing her first day of school, and doctors found a tear in her small intestines. Payton remained positive as she was transferred to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she was diagnosed with lymphoma in her small intestines.
It's a curable form of cancer that requires six months of chemotherapy, but will require homeschooling for Payton — described by friends as a social butterfly.
The community has raised nearly $46,000 on a GoFundMe for Payton. Click here to donate.
