RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Happy Birthday to Ridgewood's Jordin Sparks!
The youngest American Idol winner ever, Ridgewood native Jordin Brianna Sparks, turns 26 Thursday.
Sparks lived in Ridgewood while her father, Phillippi, played as a defensive back for the New York Giants. She later attended school in Arizona and was home schooled to concentrate on her singing.
The singer, songwriter and actress rose to fame in 2007 when she won the sixth season of American Idol at age 17. She also sang during the first inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Sparks branched out from recording music, pursuing careers in acting and Broadway, and designing perfumes. Her feature film debut was the 2012 movie “Sparkle,” playing the lead role in a remake of the 1976 film inspired by the story of The Supremes.
