Van Dien Jr. turns 48 Dec. 18.
He grew up on Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood, which was named for his great-great-grandfather, a U.S. Marine during World War II, according to Wikipedia. He went to high school and college in Florida.
Van Dien starred in the 1997 James Dean biopic “James Dean: Race with Destiny.” He won the breakthrough role of Johnny Rico in Paul Verhoeven's 1997 science fiction action film “Starship Troopers,” which led to him being cast as Tarzan in the 1998 film “Tarzan and the Lost City.”
In 2008, Van Dien returned to the role of Rico in "Starship Troopers 3: Marauder," a direct-to-video sequel.
He is divorced from actress Carrie Mitchum, with whom he has two daughters. He is in the process of divorcing actress Catherine Oxenberg.
