RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Happy birthday to David Baas, a former player for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants.
Baas turns 35 on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
He was born in Bixby, Okla., on Sept. 28, 1981, and attended high school and played football in Sarasota, Fla. He lived in Ridgewood when he was playing for the Giants. He's currently back in Florida.
While in high school, Baas was recognized as "All-USA" by USA Today. He then played for the University of Michigan. He was honored both within his conference, the Big Ten, and as a consensus first-team All-American.
Baas was drafted by the 49ers in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft, and he spent six seasons with the team. He came to the Giants as an unrestricted free agent in 2011 and played three seasons, including the win in Super Bowl XLVI over the Patriots.
He suffered a variety of injuries throughout his time with the Giants --- including to his neck, knee, hip, shoulder and elbow -- and had several surgeries, and the team cut him in 2014.
