RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — A black lab from Ridgewood was voted into a charitable canine coloring book for a dog-loving Phoenix teen with leukemia Thursday night.

With 195 votes on Facebook, Maisy — a 4-year-old Kentucky rescue — was among the top 50 dogs who made the cut in “Coloring Doggies for Anthony.”

The canines will be featured in the first edition of the book -- which stemmed from a Facebook forum launched in 2014 for 17-year-old Anthony Lyons, "Photo Doggies For Anthony."

Maisy's owner, Christina Oliva, 23, shared her photo after seeing a Facebook post advertising the “Coloring Doggies for Anthony” competition in March.

The proud owner never thought Maisy would make it this far, considering there were thousands of photos posted in the competition.

But that's not what matters, she said.

"I've messaged with his mother, Kristen, before and she is an amazingly kind person who is so beyond humble as well," Oliva said early Friday.

"Anthony's health has been declining from side effects he has been having due to his chemotherapy," she added. "He needs all the love, prayers and support we can give him from where we are."But she's thrilled her rescue is being considered for such a cause."

Proceeds will purchase 100 coloring books for children in the pediatric cancer unit, and the remaining funds will go toward Anthony.
