Volunteers have been hanging the donated artwork thematically around the building, council member Margie Downs said.

"For the hallway with the public works department (the council) chose landscapes and that sort of stuff," Downs said. "The Garden Room has a lot of floral or nature scenes, which just made sense."

These are the building's first decorations since it reopened after undergoing renovations after Hurricane Floyd in 2005, Downs said.

“It’s been an ongoing process," Downs said. "(The Council) hopes to have everything done by January and then open the whole building to the public."
