Coco was critically injured after being attacked by another animal in his home, according to Oakland-based Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. (RBARI). Coco came to the shelter with a fractured jaw and leg and an abdominal hernia.

Now the non-profit is leading the charge to save Coco’s life. The organization is attempting to raise $15,000 for Coco’s care and has set up a GoFundMe to help. As of Wednesday morning, the page had raised over $9,000.

“His family could not afford the surgery and care needed, and his outlook was dismal. We knew very few details, but we agreed to help give Coco a chance at life after his family surrendered him,” RBARI explained in a statement.

Earlier this week, Coco had emergency surgery at the Oradell Animal Hospital to repair the hernia, followed by surgery on his jaw.

“His will to live is amazing us all! He made it through like the superstar he is, but he still has a long road ahead … There wasn't a dry eye when we heard that despite the pain of a broken jaw, this little warrior was desperately trying to eat.,” RBARI stated.

Coco still needs to see an orthopedist for his broken leg, and will likely need surgery on that as well. The damage to his jaw has left him on a feeding tube, and he will likely need to see a veterinary dentist.

“Coco is strong, and he is fighting to live. He deserves that gift from us,” RBARI stated.
