PARAMUS, N.J. — A $7,000 grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charity will provide therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children in Children's Aid and Family Services' Ridgewood and Paramus foster homes.

Equine-assisted therapy helps vulnerable children to build confidence, trust, improve socialization and communication and learn to better control their emotions, according to a press release from the Paramus-based organization.

“The children in our care have been severely abused and traumatized, and they have great difficulty trusting others,” President and CEO Jerry Binney said.

“Therapeutic equine lessons help them to form attachments and learn responsibility, which is a huge help to their healing."
