Club Pilates -- a franchise that prides itself on bringing the benefits of Pilates to as many people as possible – opened a studio in Wyckoff in June, and additional studios are slated for Allendale, Emerson, Ramsey and Ridgewood.

“Anyone can pick it up and do it,” Demetri Rodriguez, manager of the Wyckoff location told Daily Voice during a recent tour of the studio in Cedar Hill Plaza.

Rodriguez, of Mahwah, said he and his colleagues are trying to expose more people to the workout to show that “Pilates is for everyone.” And it is already working, he said. Those who exercise at the studio range from young mothers to people in their 70s. The studio even had one 96-year-old member, he said.

“Once you leave after your workout, it makes you feel wonderful,” said Liz Scaduto, of Hohokus, who works in sales at the studio.

Pilates strengthens the spine and abdominal core, she said, and after a few classes, people experience improved posture, balance, flexibility and strength.

Scaduto said Club Pilates is a very welcoming environment. “This is a place for someone to come and work out who has never done Pilates, but doesn’t want that intimidation factor,” she said.

The Wyckoff location offers free demo classes where people can learn the fundamentals of Pilates and do an initial workout.
