So she’s giving it to them in the form of 1 GYM 4 ALL in Waldwick.
The sensory gym, which offers open play and much more, celebrates its grand opening noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The public is invited.
“For 20 years parents have told me what’s missing from the community for kids with special needs,” said Casey. “I just always wanted to do this.”
In a phrase, 1 GYM 4 ALL, which opened in August, fills in the gaps.
Managed by Liz Piringer of Ramsey, it’s designed to be a one-stop place to meet special needs.
For starters, as far as Casey knows, the gym is the only place in the county that offers open play opportunities for children using sensory equipment.
1 GYM 4 ALL also features Kids Night Out events.
“We also have Teens Night Out for the older children who typically don’t have a place to go and hang out at night,” Casey said.
Lastly, the gym hosts birthday parties and provides yoga, music, theater and dance classes.
In Ridgewood schools, Casey teaches Resource Room replacement reading, writing, and math programs for third-, fourth-, and fifth-graders.
Prior to that, she was a self-contained teacher helping children with more severe disabilities in a more restrictive environment.
The 1,300-square-foot 1 GYM 4 ALL is at 10 Franklin Turnpike.
