All Smiles For Ridgewood Family Photographer

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Christie Adams described falling in love with photographing young children in her E. Ridgewood Avenue studio the way parents do with their newborn babies: naturally, quickly and easily.

Adams, of Wyckoff, worked as a graphic designer in New York City at several art and design studios in the early 2000s, reserving photography as a hobby.

All of that changed when she became a mother for the first time in 2006 — her new baby girl became her main subject.

“It kind of just took off from there,” said Adams , who for the past eight years has been specializing in shooting families, babies and children. She opened the business in 2007 and brought Christie Adams Photography to her Ridgewood studio in 2010.

“It wasn’t what I had envisioned in college when I was doing photography but it’s worked out really well,” said Adams, a mother of two. “It’s such a fun market meeting families and being around babies.”

While her 7- and 9-year-old girls won’t fit in her arms anymore, Adams gets her newborn-fix almost every day during the sessions that bring her back to early parenthood.

“Newborn sessions are such a special time because… you see in a new mom and dad’s face how in love they are with their new baby,” Adams said. “I go back and remember that with my own family.”

Adams tells jokes and sings silly songs to get smiles out of the youngsters she photographs, some she’s known since they were only a few days old.

“It’s fun to see growth and the same families year after year,” she said. “Kids get really comfortable and know what to expect.”

“Family photos start to have the same consistency… so it’s nice to have that as their babies grow up.”

Adams says it's not only her photos that come personalized: "It's the experience."
