RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Art of Motion Dance Theatre Artistic Directors Lynn Needle and Olivia Galgano are collaborating with Ralph Pucci on two site-specific performances at the Ralph Pucci Penthouse Loft Thursday, March 10, honoring the first solo exhibit of Hawaiian sculptor John Koga's work.
Hailed as a "shape shifter" by Janelle Zara of Cultured Magazine, Zara writes, "John Koga for decades, has defied classification. Eluding any labels, the Hawaiian artist’s career has skipped from that of sculptor, painter, photographer, provocateur and back again, boldly dabbling in political themes and one unorthodox medium after another: avocado pits, tobacco and masking tape, among them."
The evening will include a premiere shape shift.
“I just never wanted to be put in a corner,” Koga said.
Conceived and choreographed by Needle performed to Arvo Part's score "Speigel im Speigel," the quartet features cello by Jennifer Green, winner of the Artists International Competition.
The Art of Motion Dance Theatre is committed to a unique artistic vision honoring legacies, celebrating collaboration and expanding creative boundaries. The company thrives on extensive and individualized collaboration with colleges, universities, conservatories and museums.
