New Treats Baking At Old Fashioned Fair Lawn Cafe

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — Few things have changed at Benny's Luncheonette in Fair Lawn since it opened decades ago — and that's just the way customers like it.

Bea Goldstein says the breakfast plates are still overflowing with whipped cream. Marvin is still in the kitchen and her order remains a tuna-salad sandwich.

The only difference is that now, Diana and Pamela Stella of Norwood run the place, and they've brought in more goodies.

The couple, who took over and remodeled in 2011 "wanted to bring back that homemade feel," said Diana, a French Culinary Institute in New York City graduate.

“Everyone comes in with a story about how it was back in the day. They tell me about how they used to sit at the counter with their dad, and now they bring their kids.”

The couple opened Benny's Bakery and Ice Cream Shoppe two doors down in 2014. It's since gained popularity for its "Crazy Shakes" and “Bennasants” — the pasty chef’s take on cronuts — mostly thanks to Instagram.

“People order them all the way from California,” she said.

Every flavor — from Nutella-peanut-butter to cannoli — is made in the store.

Just as popular are the restaurant’s breakfast, lunch and newly-added dinner menus — complete with crab cakes, macaroni and cheese and all of Benny’s old-time classics.

“It’s a lot of comfort food,” Diana said. “Come here when you’re hungry.”
